I did something drastic today. Well, drastic for ME anyways. I finally decided to delete my Facebook account and start a brand new one. For a lot of people that’s not a big deal, but it was an absolutely nerve-wracking decision for me. I didn’t , and still sort of don’t, want to let go of were the memories that had formed with my four year account. I had posts and pictures on there that really defined the growth and challenges I had faced through those years. They were a major part of me, something I could never fully let go of.
Humans naturally fear the concept of change whether they know it or not. We all simply have our own ways of reacting and coping (or not) with this fear. We fear that which we do not know or understand. Fortunately, not all change is bad. Change is a required part of life that keeps the balance flowing instead of stagnant. A stagnant current is a dangerous one because its power weakens and eventually falls to pieces, destroying itself. Therefore, change is necessary for all of us, and many times that change appears in the form of a fresh start which is what I have finally received. Relinquishing myself of all the unpleasant memories of the last year, a new Facebook account may seem petty but is the first step in redefining myself in society.
